Guitar Hero 2

All right... I know the game really doesn’t get released until tomorrow, so I can’t rightly call this a review. But who are we kidding? This game is going to be sweet (just look at how hard that pair on the cover is ROCKING OUT!!!). Provided the ladies and gents over at RedOctane didn’t totally “jump the shark” on this sequel, the playlist alone attests to how awesome this game will be:
- "Shout at the Devil" - Mötley Crüe
- "Surrender" - Cheap Trick
- "Woman" - Wolfmother
- "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight" - Spınal Tap
- "Strutter" - KISS
- "Heart-Shaped Box" - Nirvana
- "Message in a Bottle" - The Police
- "You Really Got Me" - Van Halen
- "Carry On Wayward Son" - Kansas
- "Monkey Wrench" - Foo Fighters
- "Them Bones" - Alice in Chains
- "Search and Destroy" - Iggy Pop and The Stooges
- "Tattooed Love Boys" - The Pretenders
- "War Pigs" - Black Sabbath
- "Cherry Pie" - Warrant
- "Who Was in My Room Last Night?" - Butthole Surfers
- "Girlfriend" - Matthew Sweet
- "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" - The Rolling Stones
- "Sweet Child O' Mine" - Guns N' Roses
- "Killing in the Name" - Rage Against the Machine
- "John the Fisherman" - Primus
- "Freya" - The Sword
- "Bad Reputation" - Thin Lizzy
- "Last Child" - Aerosmith
- "Crazy on You" - Heart
- "Trippin' On a Hole in a Paper Heart" - Stone Temple Pilots

- "Institutionalized" - Suicidal Tendencies
- "Misirlou" - Dick Dale
- "Hangar 18" - Megadeth
- "Free Bird" - Lynyrd Skynyrd
There are also a few bonus tracks, including "Trogdor" from the folks at homestarrunner.com.
For those who have yet to be initiated into the world of Guitar Hero, don’t worry. I too once thought to myself: “what kind of dork straps a toy guitar to themselves and strums along to hair metal in front of their TV?” Well, the slightly mean answer to that question is “a dork like me.” But since I know you’re not the mean type, let’s just say that I have yet to encounter a single individual who hasn’t gotten totally hooked on this game (well, there was one, but he doesn’t count). My own sisters, both of whom hate videogames, found themselves absolutely addicted within fifteen minutes. All you really need is a little bit of rhythm, folks. I promise.
Now, if there’s anything remotely negative about this sequel, it’s that you have to hunt down your original game disc if you want to play any David Bowie tracks. Beyond that, it looks stellar. I’ll let you all know what I think once I get my mitts on a copy. Till Next Time--

Well, nine months have passed since this post was originally authored, and of course we all know firsthand how great an improvement Guitar Hero 2 was over the original. Stay tuned over the next few days for my review of its pseudo-sequel, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80's. Till Then!
