media
Games, movies, television... these are the diet of today’s HD displays. Though I’m sure we’ll eventually see downloadable content replace removable media for distribution of materials in the world’s home theaters, we are currently still very much in the era of the silver disc. Below, you’ll find my somewhat thorough (and ridiculously biased) opinions on many of these. Enjoy
Bioshock
Saturday, Sep 8, 2007
When Bioshock was announced two E3’s ago, many wondered if the game could live up to its pedigree – this was, after all, the “spiritual successor” (the developer's words, not mine) to 1999’s critical smash System Shock 2. As build after build was shown to industry press over the last two years, most were impressed with what they saw, but few believed that Bioshock’s oddball story or cerebral gameplay would be able to propel it beyond cult status. As the game neared its release and a demo appeared on Xbox Live, however, it quickly became clear: gamers were clamoring for the world of Rapture...
The Last Temptation of Christ
Monday, Aug 13, 2007
When it was released in the late summer of 1988, Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation of Christ faced a firestorm of criticism from conservative groups across the spectrum of Christianity. “There’s a sex scene between Christ and Mary Magdeline!” they cried. “It’s vulgarity on a level only Hollywood could aspire to!” Controversy aside, The Last Temptation was certainly unlike any film about Christ that had come before. Like its source material (the 1951 novel of the same name penned by Nikos Kazantzakis), the film attempted to do something which had rarely (if ever) been done previously: examine wholly that often forgotten human side of Jesus Christ...
The Host

Let’s get right to the chase: American horror films have been absolutely abysmal in recent years. Perhaps I’ve become ridiculously desensitized to violence courtesy of all the mature rated videogames I allow into my home
(I know… I’m BAD), but I really don’t find buckets of
blood that horrifying. Besides—as much as Hollywood would like to tell you otherwise, fictionalized torture is not entertainment (even when the victim is Paris Hilton). It’s with great pride, then, that I introduce to you one of best “horror” films I’ve seen in nearly a decade (horror is in quotations for a reason, but I’ll get to that). A breath of fresh air has made its way across the Pacific in the form of the 2006 South Korean monster film The Host...
Guitar Hero 2
Monday, Nov 6, 2006
All right... I know the game really doesn’t get released until tomorrow, so I can’t rightly call this a review. But who are we kidding? This game is going to be sweet (just look at how hard that pair on the cover is ROCKING OUT!!!). Provided the ladies and gents over at RedOctane didn’t totally “jump the shark” on this sequel, the playlist alone attests to how awesome this game will be. There are also a few bonus tracks, including "Trogdor"...
iTunes 7
Sunday, Sep 17, 2006
I don’t care whether you use a PC or a Mac; chances are you’re managing your music library with Apple’s iTunes. Just this past week, they released version 7 of the application, and my first impressions of its performance and new functionality are pretty favorable. First, let me get the bad news out of the way...
